Important Information for Former Account Holders of Megabank Amsterdam

On 13 January 2026, Mega International Commercial Bank Co. Ltd. (Amsterdam Branch) ("Megabank Amsterdam") announced that it would discontinue its banking activities in the Netherlands and return its banking licence to the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank).
As a result, Megabank Amsterdam is no longer permitted to provide banking services or offer bank accounts in the Netherlands. All remaining bank accounts were closed on 30 July 2026 and any outstanding funds had to be claimed by 20 May 2026.
Customers were required to claim their outstanding funds by 20 May 2026. Between 13 January 2026 and 20 May 2026, Megabank Amsterdam contacted all account holders with remaining balances to inform them of the closure and to arrange the transfer of their funds to an account with another bank.
Unclaimed funds
If your funds were not transferred before 20 May 2026, Megabank Amsterdam transferred your balance to the Consignment Fund (consignatiekas) maintained by the Dutch Ministry of Finance (Ministerie van Financiën) on 30 July 2026.
How to reclaim your funds
If you are a former Megabank Amsterdam customer and did not claim your funds before 20 May 2026, you can request payment directly from the Consignment Fund. Please follow the procedure set out by the Consignment Fund to submit your claim (link here).

  • If you held an active bank account with Megabank Amsterdam, your bank account was closed on 30 July 2026. You had until 20 May 2026 to retrieve any outstanding funds, after which Megabank Amsterdam sent all unclaimed funds to the Consignment Fund maintained by the Dutch Ministry of Finance.
  • How can I reclaim my money?
  • On 30 July 2026, Megabank Amsterdam sent all unclaimed funds to the Consignment Fund maintained by the Dutch Ministry of Finance. If your balance was transferred to the Consignment Fund, you will have to submit a claim directly to the Dutch Ministry of Finance to retrieve your unclaimed balance.

  • Is there a deadline to submit my request for payment to the Consignment Fund?
  • Yes, the Dutch Ministry of Finance holds consignments in custody for a period of 20 years. For consignments up to €45.38, the statute of limitations is 60 years.
  • Do payments out of the Consignment Fund bear interest?
  • Yes, but only for balances that are greater than or equal to EUR 45.38. For consignments of € 45.38 or more, you will receive simple interest upon payout. This means no interest on interest from previous years. You will receive interest from the month following the consignment up to and including the month prior to payout. You will not receive interest on parts of a calendar month.
    The Dutch Ministry of Finance determines the interest rate annually. This is based on the average of the interest rates applicable at that time for callable savings accounts at the major banks.
