The initial trace of Mega International commercial Bank (formerly “The International Commercial Bank of China”) New York Agency can be dated back as far as 1936.

This is the earliest and biggest foreign branches Republic of China ever has had.

Originally, New York Agency was operated at a commercial building which located at the Wall Street. Then its narrow space could not meet the requirement of expansion and the old building needed reconstructing at that time.

After determination that the Bank was looking for a permanent and independent home in the Manhattan, a home was indeed found at 65 Liberty Street.

Finally the Bank moved to the landmark building that housed the old New York Chamber of Commerce in the year of 1991.

The 5-story and marble-clad structure, is a relic of Manhattan’s past.

Its 30 foot high second-story assembly room, known as the Great Hall, is considered among the City’s grandest interior spaces.

Its distinctive features include the monumental Beaux Arts façade, which is constructed of marble with a rusticated base story below massive ionic columns, and a copper mansard roof punctuated by dormer windows with elaborate sculptural surrounds.

It goes without saying that the building was already designated a landmark and is also on the National Register of Historic Places.

The State Banking Department of New York upgraded the status of this Agency to “Branch” on September 8, 2006, enabled the Branch to keep on offering more services to our worldwide customers.

Thus, Mega ICBC^® New York Branch has preserved the past grandeur of the old Chamber of Commerce while modernizing it enough to provide a modern Banking headquarters.

It means that the Bank successfully preserves human culture.
